Dr. Thomas Nye
Dr. Thomas Nye graduated from The Ohio State University College of Optometry in 1987, and joined our practice soon after . As an optometrist, Dr. Nye offers to the practice all facets of primary eyecare. This includes vision evaluation and correction, contact lens care, treatment of eye disease, and surgical co-management.
Since starting in practice, Dr. Nye has been involved in a number of professional activities. He is a member of the American Optometric Association, past Executive Board Member of the Ohio Optometric Association, and past Zone Governor of the Cincinnati Optometric Association. He has also been a member of the Contact Lens Section and the Sports Vision Section of the AOA. In 1991, he was named Ohio's Young Optometrist of the Year for his outstanding professional and community service.
The Ohio Optometric Association has recently named Dr. Nye the Key Optometrist of the Year for 2006 in the state of Ohio. The OOA, which represents nearly 1100 eye doctors throughout the state, recognized Dr. Nye at their annual congress in Cleveland for his outstanding contributions to the profession of optometry. Specifically noted were Dr. Nye’s legislative efforts on behalf of patients and the profession at the state and national levels.
Dr. Nye works closely with state elected officials relative to vision and eye health issues. He is an OOA keyperson for Senator Gary Cates, Representative Shawn Webster, and Representative Courtney Combs. He also is an optometric keyperson for Congressman John Boehner.
In addition to these grassroots efforts, Dr. Nye is a member of the national American Optometric Association Political Action Committee 10-person Board of Directors, and was recently named assistant treasurer for that group. He is also the Greater Cincinnati administrator for VisionSource, a professional network of 1500 private optometric practices across the country.
Locally, Dr Nye currently serves as trustee of the Fraternal Order of Police Associates, board member of the Greater Hamilton Chamber of Commerce, vice chair of the Greater Hamilton Convention and Visitors Bureau, and treasurer of Dayton Lane Historic Area. He is chair of the Greater Hamilton Catholic School Collaborative. Dr. Nye is also former mayor of Hamilton.
Dr. Nye and his wife, Jennifer, reside in Hamilton. They have 3 active school-age children.
